Seven Sinister questions from Paul Counelis ( Rue Morgue Magazine )

1) What’s your favorite memory of your legendary horror/punk band “Penis Flytrap”?

I have many great memories from my times of terror with PFT. I will offer two. First and foremost, the friendships that we shared. Those were the gore old days of the dead. Some of the finest fiends I have ever known. The dancers, too. Lots of love between all of the blood. The other great memory I will recall now would have to be performing with The Misfits and GWAR. Not just because of the friendships between us, but for the love of horror that we all have. There was a fury and fire burning for me back then and I was proud to be part of that ensemble of horror.

2) Who were that band’s biggest influences?

The biggest influences for Penis Flytrap were the supernatural, horror films and their soundtracks…and seriously, having fun with what we do. We were influenced by the emotions we all got from witnessing shows like ROCKY HORROR, Return of the Living Dead…and more..the whole LA Deathrock scene was influential too. So many great people out there at Bar Sinister, Release the Bats, Coven 13. So much horror happening.

3) What’s your favorite song from your Lucifer Fulci output?

My favorite Lucifer Fulci song, just for today, is “The Dead Girl” from the CD “Evilution.” It was written for my bloody bride, Sarah “Dead Girl” Fulci at a time of pure, horrific inspiration. I think it contains qualities that set the tone for great songs of the
supernatural. And you can really groove to it while you dismember someone.

4) What’s your all-time favorite horror film?

My all time favorite horror film is The Exorcist. Or, wait…Bride of Frankenstein…wait..The Exorcist…hell..shit..cannot decide. For new stuff, I LOVE “The Dead.”

5) Who’s your favorite metal or punk band?

My fave Metal band – other than my own music- is Old Mans Child or Black Sabbath…so many..but I listen to them the most. As for Punkstuff…I will always give credz to my pals The Misfits. Even now with it basically being the Jerry/Dez band, I love the new music. Call me old fashioned, but I love music about Sci Fi and Horror and with Jerry Only AND Dez Cadena? 2 ICONS of punk history..and very sweet gentlemen. Surely my fave there. And yes, Eric is an amazing drummer.

6) What’s your most recent album?

My most recent album is “Evilution.” I am working on one called “Samhain.” It contains a bit of everything that I do musically. Its a real treat for Halloween!

7) Besides being a musician, you’re also an author. What other projects are you currently working on?

Other than the new CD, “Samhain” , I have just released a new book called ” A collection of Horror by Lucifer Fulci: Fiction, poetry and lyrics for the damned.” Some of the sickest shit I have ever spewed. On the other end of the writing sphere, I have released “A Diary of Sobriety,” which is just that. Its true life recovery stuff. You can find that under my actual name, David Stashko. I am finishing up “20 chunkblowers that splattered the world”, “Siki City 20666” and re-releasing the original “Siki City.” My partner in terror, Loren G3, and myself are going to release a split CD this year called “Red Tenebre”- which is mostly electronic evil music of madness. We will also be collaborating on a graphic novel as the moon rises and sets. More info on that to follow. Last, but never least, on my list of lycanthropic lusts is a live show that will be a mix of classic grand guignol gore and depravity and modern day technology set to my spooky, instrumental soundtracks. I am toying with the name ” I love Lucifer.”
